The PSA: Read the instructions. I see a few reciews saying the thread is too thick, and thats because it is. The instructions says to cut a piece about 18inches long then seperate the 6 strands that make up the thread. This makes it useable and the amount of the thread given in this kit is way more than enough for the three patterns it gives. The good:A fun way to pass the time. The instructions are straight forward and there is PLENTY of thread to make even more than the three patterns the kit comes with. The patterns are super cute and simple for a beginner like me.The middle:I didn't have too much trouble with the smallness of the pattern, but I can see how someone with worse eyesight might have trouble seeing and counting stitches. There are only three patterns to pick from and two of them involve a donut. While they are super cute, it would have been nice to have more to pick from.A needle threader would've been nice to include, but its not too hard as long as you seperate the thread into 6 pieces and wet the tip of the thread before trying to thread it.The bad:The instructions could come with pictures or a link to a cute pusheen cross stitch video. I have never cross stitched before and while the instructions were enough to understand, I still had to fill in some gaps of knowledge. Like "what do I do with the end of the thread? Do I just leave it untied and dangling in the back?" Also, I didn't start in the center like the instructions say to. The hoop is so small that I was worried if I started in the middle, I would end up off and the pattern wouldn't fit in the hoop. I started this pattern from the bottom.Another con is that the hoop is rather small. Its just barely big enough to fit the pattern. Also, its kind of hard to seperate the thread into 6 strands because of how it twists back onto itself, but after a few tries you can figure out the best way to do it.After its all said and done though, this is a fun way to pass the time. I hadn't even considered adding cross stitich to my arts & crafts knowledge but I think I might now. It's a good introduction into cross stitich, especially for its cheap price. If you don't have much patience though I wouldn't try this. The picture above is about 5 hours of work and I'm not even done!
This is a great way to learn and to find out whether or not I'm interested in pursuing larger projects.
This is a really cute kit that everyone can enjoy. It's especially great for beginners who want to start cross-stitch, but don't want to invest a lot of money in hoops, needles, etc. Having said that...1. I really wish they had included more than three patterns. There is one of Pusheen in her traditional sitting pose, and two patterns of her with a donut.2. I wish they had included more light gray thread, since that's the one you will be using the most.3. I wish the ada cloth squares had been cut larger. You really don't have much of a margin to work with. If you decide to frame these, your Pusheens will probably go right to the edge of the frame.
I finally opened this up to use and found out that I'm missing the inner hoop. I was so confused as to how the heck I was suppose to follow the instructions in inserting the fabric when my hoop didn't seem to be correct. Make sure you check the product as soon as you get it so you can return it if it's missing items. Annoyed that I missed my deadline to return. Now I have to go to the store and get another hoop if I want to use this.
Adorable little kit! I was refunded the price difference since it's cheaper now than when I pre-ordered. I put a quarter inside the hoop for size reference. The little booklet is really sturdy and great quality. It has directions for first time cross stitchers and three patterns options. My box came in an envelope and was pretty crushed. For that reason alone it might not make the best gift. Otherwise I have no complaints!
I had so much fun with this kit! I've always been a Pusheen fan but I never tried cross-stitching before so I thought I'd try it out. The directions were clear and I had no problem easily understanding what to do. For the low price, you get hours of cross-stitching! It comes with a lot of thread and you can easily make 3+ designs. The thread is kind of annoying to pull apart and can get knotted but that's just cross-stitching thread in general. I thought for my first time my picture came out really cute and I can't wait to make more!
Overall a very cute and clever kit. Having experience in cross-stitch, I was surprised to get sharp needles (versus standard blunt needles). Sharp needles make even stitching quite tricky. I botched two patterns already which has not happened in ages. Also, a needle threader would have been a welcome addition. The 3" hoop is charming and quite sturdy. The downside is trying to maneuver the needle near it while getting a good grip. The fabric squares in my kit seem barely large enough and were frayed out of the box. The thread enclosed is extremely generous, to the point I wish they included a few more practice squares. The instructions are clear but there are better tutorials online for serious stitchers. Agree with the review asking for more varied patterns. Donuts are cute, but Pusheen holding a heart would have been adorable too. Make sure to have really good magnifying glasses if you're of certain age, too.
I got this because I thought it would be fun to try Crosstitch, but when I opened it up it was just a little too hard for me. So I gave it to a friend who I knew really enjoyed cross stitch and already knew how to do it. She loved it. This would be a really great travel kit;something to do on a long plane ride or something, but I recommend you already know how to Crosstitch, unless you’re like super crafty and amazing at learning to do an old Timey craft with a tiny instrction book with no visual aids of how the stitches should look.
