I've been knitting all weekend! Purling and everything! One of the big pluses is that the yarn and the needles and the pattern all work together, so you aren't running around trying to find what needles to buy or what weight yarn goes with what needles.The latest version of the kit has very attractive variegated purple yarn plus it includes a carrying case for your needle.So, now that I've taught myself to knit with this book why didn't I give it a 5? Well, they do a good job of teaching you the skills you need to do basic knitting, but they don't give you the skills to get to the next level. Specifically, they don't teach you how to read a pattern. It's reasonable *not* to include a sweater, since that's a whole nother level of difficulty. But it would have been helpful to show us how to get from the narrative explanation of a pattern to a standard pattern using abbreviations and symbols.Nevertheless, I think this kit is a winner.

I learned how to sew and do other crafts as a kid but never picked up knitting. This book is written for teens, but it made it really simple even for thirtysomethings like me to learn how to knit. The pictures and instructions are clear and the projects included are easy enough that you can get a quick confidence boost from early success. I also love that it came with the tools you will need which eliminated the intimidating step of trying to find them at a fabric/craft shop when you have ZERO idea what exactly you need. The only down sides I could find were that a) (as others have pointed out) the yarn included is of low quality so it snags and separates really easily causing unnecessary frustration for someone just learning b) the book does not go far enough and teach you how to read a knitting pattern so I had to go to other sources for this. Overall though I would say this book is a winner and anyone wanting to learn themselves or teach a child to knit should pick it up.

This book stands up to Klutz standards! It comes with all the materials you need to get started, and gives very detailed starting instructions. There are a few gaps where I had to guess at what I needed to do, but in general it's very easy. No technical language, which is great! I feel pretty nervous when I look at "real" knitting patterns (lots of abbreviations I don't understand), but my first few projects have turned out pretty well! The projects don't get very complicated, so you'll need more books to do the "cool stuff," but this set is REALLY great for getting your feet wet and just seeing if you like it! A good deal when you consider that it comes with start-up supplies (which also means you can't mess up buying your first supplies!).The projects are also easy to adapt (my husband is happy with his Kindle cover, created using the sunglasses holder pattern). Now the trick is to not become one of those people who knits cozies for everything in the house, just because I can.

Truthfully I purchased this book because it came with everything that you needed to knit -- yarn, needles, even a crochet hook! And let's face it -- you really cannot beat the price. I also purchased "Teen Knitting Club" (though I am in no way a teen) and I figured that one of these two books would be able to help me figure knitting out. The instructions in this book were clear and simple, with arrows pointing where the yarn should go, and I was able to go from not knowing how to hold to needles, to completing a 10 foot long scarf in less than 3 weeks ( I was knitting comfortably in 4 days ). The instructions in the "teen knitting club" book were a little more confusing, they did not break each step down into basic steps like this book does. I am surprised that there were so many people who did not find this book helpful; I can't imagine anyone being more awkward at this than I was!

I purchased this set because I have wanted to learn to knit for a long time. I know that it's a book designed for children, but I figured a beginner is a beginner.The book that comes in this set helped me out quite a bit. It's descriptions were easy to understand. I like the projects that are included because they don't require you to read a knitting pattern.The needles that came in the kit are okay. They are a little too short, but they do work for all the projects in the book. The yarn is just an average acrylic. There is quite a bit included with the kit, which was a surprise to me. It isn't enough to complete all of the projects in the book though. I also felt that the yarn was tangled and difficult to ball up. I had to give up on some of it because it was making me frustrated.I have taught myself to knit with the assistance of this kit. It wasn't quite enough though, and I was glad that I had ordered another book. I would recommend this book to someone who has zero knowledge of knitting. It has everything you need to begin inside of the package.

For me, it was extremely helpful, with good pictures and even some easy patterns. A few weeks ago, my daughter decided she wanted to learn to knit so I sent her my copy of this book and then decided I needed to replace it. Luckily, I found a good used copy and immediately ordered it.

I started to learn to knit from a neighbor, but I never really got it until this book. Aimed towards pre-teens and teens, the book explains all the basic stitches in clear terms with useful, step-by-step illustrations. The projects included for practice are useful to teen and adult alike - a basic hat, glasses case, coin purse, cell phone case, scarf, etc. All are manageable using the skills taught earlier in the book. Plus, everything's included - knitting needles, buttons, yarn, and tapestry needle. This gave me the confidence I needed to move on to other projects.

A really fun read A bit hard to put down once you get started. I don,t usually pull for the bad guy to walk away freely but I found this one really interesting and looked forward to seeing if I was still his friend when the truth came out. My only suggestion to Mr. Ellsworth is I would have put the entire family back together, run away to parts unknown and NEVER have given two million to a killing machine like the cartel.Looking forward to reading more of this author,s work and really look forward to his newest work soon. I admit I am a fan of Mr Ellsworth. His writing is crisp, the story-telling superb, the character development excellent. And to make this book even better, it reads like an early John Grisham before he went commercial. Nice twist to the plot that was not overdeveloped. I would recommend reading Mr Ellsworth's Thaddeus Murfee series in order as they build on each previous book. By the time you get to this one, you will love the family, friends, and colleagues.

Great book, really holds your attention. Hard to put down. Hard to wait from one night to the next evening, so that I can get back to this book. I am searching for more of John's books. I have read so many they are getting a little hard to find. Get the computer keyboard cleaned up and get to writing.

Loved this story.........loved the characters........overall this book tickled me something fierce. This was my 6th Thaddeus Murfee book and the 1st that I have reviewed. I don't know if the author intended for the book to be so funny, though I suspect that he did intend exactly that, and he really succeeded. Twists and turns, and young Thaddeus sure had his hands full. Can't wait for series book #7.

Not to say that I wasn't engrossed with the writing...well written book but I felt that I saw that ending coming so, unfortunately, I wasn't surprised. This isn't my first Ellsworth novel but it definitely was my least favorite.

As usual, Mr. Ellsworth comes through with a satisfying legal tale. His writing is always a pleasure, bringing the reader interesting, quirky characters that you can't help root for.

I love John"s books. This one keeps you guessing. Love the premise. Don"t want to give too much away as that always ruins the book for me. You get the legal information without having to read a boring law text or something. Always keeps you involved and interested in continuing reading.

This book sounded like there was an exciting plot but it fell way short! I kept reading with the hopes that the author would tie it all together & keep me interested but it failed miserably. It just wasn't well written & with the typos, missed words, etc it was painful to say the least. I have read 8 out of 9 Ellsworth novels & have recommended all except this one. Don't waste your money or valuable time on The Mental Case!

Bought this book to study OUTLOOK 2010 as I went from an older version of OUTLOOK (without the ribbon). Since I had been using OUTLOOK for many years, I just needed to learn the changes and where the commands resided with the ribbon. With the help of this book, just reading it one night, and then the next day installing OUTLOOK 2010, I was ready to go! Everything went great without even a hiccup and I was able to get into OUTLOOK 2010 and get everything I needed to setup in no time with the help of this superb book! I was able to install my email accounts, and since I had my existing contacts already on my Windows Phone 6.5 with Outlook, I simply synced the contacts into my OUTLOOK 2010 PC in minutes! Then I added appointments into my laptop and then synced them into my phone! Have been doing this every day with no problems at all! This is a PERFECT version of OUTLOOK and this book has been such a help. It is perfect for reference and I have been referring to it when needed. One more thing that I will add is this: The Microsoft Step by Step Series, I have bought and referred to for many years--especially when I purchase a updated version to a software such as MS Office, Outlook and more. I have found that these books have the easiest to follow instructions in the business! A highly recommended book!

The Microsoft Office 2010 Step by Step series is by far the most easy to understand, careful and methodical learning guide I have ever encountered for any computer software learning. Complete with pictures to aid in showing the reader exactly what their computer should look like if they followed the steps correctly, it makes no assumptions about the individual user's computer savvy- instead defaulting to the position that they know nothing about computers (the way any good computer learning guide SHOULD be written). This series if FAR better than the so called 'for dummies' series, which always left me even more confused after I forced myself to read the first few chapters. I have two of the complete series of books on Microsoft Office 2010, Access 2010 and Outlook 2010. I fully intend to buy the rest of them as soon as I finish devouring these. This series actually makes learning fun. I highly recommend it.

Microsoft Outlook 2010 Step by Step is a very good reference and instruction book for MS Outlook 2010. I actually haven't used Outlook in a few years, so it was a good catcher upper, and even though I now own MS Outlook 2013 (no books on it yet), this book worked just fine for my version. It's very detailed with tons of helpful graphics and designs and I found nearly everything I needed to find in the book, with one exception that I had to Google. It's a pretty exhaustive book and most readers will likely find it more than suits their needs for learning this program. Recommended.

This book could have been more specific about how to do things in Outlook especially about how to import and export contacts or other files by describing what each option does better instead of leaving it a completely mystery or partial mistery.

I had a very disappointing Experience. After receiving the book I was unable to download the files from on-line. Last time I purchased the Step by Step books was the 2007 version and it came w/ CD's to download the classes which was awesome. The 2010 version does NOT come with Cd's, you have to down load classes on-line. I tried several times to download the classes and came up with blank files. What's worse, there's no Customer Service phone # where you can talk to someone. The only option you have it to email Customer Service for help. After sending emails back/forth .. I give up. I can't reach a human! I got not where. What are you do? You throw the books away, waste your money, and find find another product that works.

I have been having PC problems and my Outlook 2007 on PC and Outlook 2010 on laptop needed fixing. The laptop needed to be totally set up and aspects still do. I used Step by Step to trouble shoot the PC problems and it's working well. I wouldn't be here writing this review if it didn't.Whether your installing OUTLOOK 2010 or trouble shooting it. Step by Step is a handy tool. Not as good as having a PC Guru sitting there fixing it, but better that sitting there cussing at the screen.

Overall I found this book to be very unhelpful and very confusing. The authors seemed bogged down by detail and could not describe the benefits of Outlook in a very clear manner. It didn't seem to me they worked with Outlook in a corporate setting as users but instead simply went through the motions of explaining every possible feature. I wondered if I had the same program as they worked with, as we didn't seem to be on the same page from the start, and I'm thinking they jumped from topic to topic too quickly. I have liked other texts on computer software I have bought through Amazon, but not this one. I'd give it two stars.

The book is well laid out and took me through every aspect of the application. I like these books because they take you step by step with practice lessons. I am Microsoft certified in Outlook, but still learned lots about the application, which is assisting me in being more efficient at work. I especially like the Conversation feature in Outlook that I was unaware of before reading how it works.

Good book. Easy to understand.

I still like having a pocket calendar instead of my phone. This works perfectly for what I need

Perfect pocket calendar for my purposes! Clear plastic cover prevents it from becoming frayed. I like it that Christian, Jewish and Muslim holy days are marked, because I have friends in all of those faiths. Several "Notes" pages let me add the local bus schedule. Typical contacts pages are there, too. I'm quite pleased.

Just the right size for my purse! Thankfully, it's days run Sunday through Saturday, rather than putting Saturday and Sunday sharing one block and at the end of the week.

Just what I was looking for. Days have ample room to write in appointments, etc.. Small enough to fit in my purse or pocket. I love it.

The graphics are nice but i do not like that the calendar is sideways.
