I am so happy to have 'stumbled across this author/story. Ms Draven's writing such a pleasure to read. The story and character development are beautifully done; no one is over the top, or too wishy-washy, or have qualities that are unbelievable or unattractive. The H and h are both very appealing and believable characters. There is drama and angst, but not so much that it stalls the story line or makes it out of character. Kate is someone that could be any one of us; she is average without seeming average. Vaxa is a delicious alpha male without turning it into a caricature that so many writers have a tendency to do. Their relationship is sweet, funny, smexy, and just plain enjoyable.Besides the story and character development the writing itself was SOLID. I mean, the editing was done very well. This author knew about sentence structure. I know it might seem trivial(but it isn't!) talking about sentence and paragraph structure, punctuation, etc., but my God, some of the books coming out now have the worst editing- or no editing- done to them, and it is an insult to not only;y the reader but the author as well. This book is an extremely all-around well done book, and I cannot wait for the next one. I really can't wait to read about Vaxa's War Generals and going back to the slave arena. A couple have already caught my eye.....Ms. Draven, Brava on a beautiful job with your first book! Congrats, and please keep them coming!
This is the BEST sci-fi romance novel I've read in a very long time! It was so good, in fact, that although I intially starting reading it for free through my kindle unlimited subscription, halfway through the story, I purchased my own copy. And I would've happily paid quite a bit more to own this book.I love the kindle unlimited subscription service because it lets me try out lots of new writers for less up-front cost, but the flip side of that coin is that the majority of the authors are novices and their work is often unpolished. "The Alien's Prize" proved to be the rare exception to this rule. The story was engaging and the main characters were both charming and believable. The world building was interesting, although the details were a little too sketchy for my preferences. I would have liked to hear more about the history of Luxiria and I wish the book had been a little longer. If you like science fiction/fantasy romances, then this book is for you. I highly recommend it for fans of Evangeline Anderson, Christine Feehan, Dara Joy or Ruby Dixon.I wish the author had already published at least a dozen or so books in this series for me to immediately dive into!
I enjoyed this story! It is a bit typical in regards to the alien's female population are barren due to being poisoned during a war. In order to procreate their leader goes to "the pit" to get a female to breed with. It's either "insta-love" or "instinct and fate" on the hero's part but it takes a bit of time for the human heroine to come around - No real surprise as she was kidnapped and chained while waiting for the winner of the pit fight to claim her.I liked the interaction between the hero and heroine as well as the other characters in the book. Please be warned though - if you don't care for numerous hot and steamy bedroom scenes then this book is definitely not for you!
Great start to a new series from an author attempting a new genre. I got this book on Kindle Unlimited and chose to buy it to show support for this author's debut into Sci-fi. I can't wait for book two. The author provided good world building and character development. But she didn't overwhelm with a lot of needless filler. It was as if she was giving us a glimpse into this brand new world. The story ends by the hero trying to correct the wrongs of where the story began. This left me with a sense of anticipation for the next book. I had some unanswered questions that will be answered as the series progresses. Questions about the brother and the lost tribe or how they will help fix the wrongs committed against human females. So many ways this story could go...I can't wait. Thumbs up to the author for good storytelling!
I read this book on a recommendation of another author. She sold me the book with the three words of the title. And seriously - I am so glad I read this!I love the way it started. The author has built a beautiful world. Whether it was the planet Pit or the planet Luxuria - it was a pleasure reading what the planet looked like. The characters - I like that they're flawed. They have egos, but their bond overrides their ego. That was a beauty to read. And seriously - that was some smoking hot sex! Y'all do not miss the ridged vibrating tongue!Only thing that I think the author could've improved upon is that I personally wanted Kate to fight for her freedom a bit more. Yes, she had nothing left in her homeland that held her but I think humans don't just accept that so easily. I'm a dramarama. I wanted to read her take the decision to go to Earth - live her life with a strained bond even if it's only for an hour - see how everyone has slowly moved on in their lives in her absence and THEN decided to come back to her husband. I would've loved to see that arc.Nevertheless, the story was a quick read. I was really enraptured by the world and the characters. I loved the innocence of the alien. His confusion on earth phrases and idioms was hilarious to read!Thank you so much for your lovely words, Zoey! I'm looking forward to the sequel. All my love,Sri
