This is one of the best and easiest reads about JPII's theology of the body! So easy to understand. I highly recommend using this book as a guide those going into a new relationship! My girlfriend and I have followed the principals in this book to help us live a chaste life together as we are getting to know each other for who we really are! Definitely a MUST read if you want your relationship to last a lifetime.

This is a refreshingly sensible book that speaks to the truth of what we all have to struggle with in terms of what it means to love each other in the biblical sense of love's definition. Many of us have grown up with a distorted view of romantic love and we are constantly inundated with false ideas in the popular culture about how to relate to members of the opposite sex. It is easy to confuse the initial attractions we experience as evidence that we are "meant for each other". In reality, the truth about selfless abiding love goes much deeper than a superficial feeling of infatuation. Much heartache could be avoided by paying close attention to the wonderful counsel in this book. The following excerpt is an example of the wisdom of being aware of our motivations in our relationships:"... sensual and emotional responses can be so powerful that they dominate how we view the other person. In our fallen human nature, we can tend to see persons of the opposite sex primarily through the prism of their sexual values--the values that give us pleasure. As a result, we obscure our perception of them as persons, and view them more as opportunities for our own enjoyment"I highly recommend this book to readers desiring to honor God and to learn how to better "love one another" in the way He would have us to love.

I'm married and I sooooo wish I had read this 15 years ago when I started dating-- or better yet BEFORE dating!! It would have saved me so much heartache. There's such a lack of truth out there these days. This is a must read. It teaches you what TRUE love is. Not this cheap imitation that the world is currently selling that crumbles at the slightest adversity and has given us the current divorce rate. . So much wisdom and a great "easy read". I may go on to read JPII's Love & Responsibility now that I've got the cliff notes under my belt as a prep. It's SO good. Please read it. Buy an extra copy to share with someone. Single, dating, engaged, married-- there's honestly so much good stuff in there for everyone!

We used this book as the basis for a young adult (18-35 years old) discussion group. Our members ran the spectrum from no prior knowledge of St. Pope John Paul II's works and teachings to those with an in-depth understanding of the same. Philosophers and practically minded folks alike enjoyed the book. The content was both accessible and insightful, and the questions made the discussion flow naturally. We had 12 weeks of great discussion and now find ourselves struggling to follow with an equally excellent work. The group discussions normally had 5-6 people showing up, we were regularly at 15-16 people for this study.

This is based on Pope John Paul the Great's classic philosophical text "Love and Responsibility" which he wrote in the 1950's I believe. This book consolidates all of the teachings from that into practical advice for anyone struggling in a relationship already or considering getting into one, or single folks as well.I especially like the way it highlights some of the best metaphors Saint John Paul II used to explain the church's teachings on love, relationships, and sexuality. He was so gentle in his approach to the subject, but still didn't make any concessions in explaining the truth. This book brings a lot of his ideas and applies them to our current culture, but also reminds us that if we don't feel like we're meeting the standard set forth in the text, to not feel too bad, because placed in perspective, what's expressed in "Love and Responsibility" are met by very few people, but we can all try a little harder to use our relationships with others to glorify God and to give more of ourselves.

This is one of my favorite books, and I am constantly buying it to give as gifts to all my friends. It's a must read for ALL AGES.This is really a tangible version on JPII's 500 pg book on Love and Responsibility. It has a great discussion questions after each chapter and references (specifically pages) to JPII's book on Love and Responsibility if you wanted to check it out yourself. It touches on the subjects of love in terms of family/friendship and romance, physical and emotional chastity, modesty, and little bit of theology of the body. All of it is in line with the Catholic Church, yet you don't have to be Catholic to read it. The book paints a clear picture of what love should look like and it's ultimate message is that real love is completely self-less.Another book I recommend with this is Theology of the Body by Christopher West, which is another tangible read of JPII's own Theology of the Body. All of JPII's works are honestly too good to miss out on.

I happened to learn of this book while watching EWTN and as a way to enhance what I had learned on the on-going TV program I bouth the book. It was wonderful because at this late age in my life I still wondered: What is true love between a man and a woman? Mind you, I have been married for 36 years and thought I understood, but I didn't. I understand it now, thanks to this translation of what our beloved Blessed John Paul II wrote on his book: Love and Responsibility. This book is Dr. Sri's way of making Blessed John Paul's work ammenable to our ears.I highly recommend this book to all but especially to those just starting out in life because they will understand what finding a mate is all about. It is about finding a love that is enduring, self-sacraficing, and true to the promises of the vocation of marriage and family.Thank you Edward Sri for brining this work to us.Best regards,OlgaC
